Inlays and onlays are designed to cover the occlusal (biting) surface of the molars and premolars. An inlay is a smaller restoration that sits between the cusps (the raised ridges) of the teeth, while onlays are designed to fit over the entire top of a tooth.
Our dentists may recommend inlays or onlays for a variety of reasons. Some of the benefits of them include:
- Preservation of the natural teeth
- Additional structural support for damaged natural teeth
- Seals out bacteria
- Made from stain-resistant material
- Durability over time
